Vista SP1 coming soon….thanks to Google?

Just saw this interesting bit from the PC World newsletters, and in fact it’s pretty interesting news, where Microsoft was not the one announcing their SP1, but from the U.S. Department of Justice, mainly because of accusations of monopolization (ahem..ahem, isn’t that what they are heading towards?) of not only the operating system market, but further branching out to other markets, threatening other  (Face the facts people, this is the real world!) Well, do expect its release around the end of this year. (Hopefully they’ll include a more customizable UAC, which currently doesn’t allow me to open Visual Studio with Expression Blend!)

It’s almost a fact that, being able to monopolize the operating system market, Microsoft definitely has the edge over all the other competitors in the software market, and later on, they could most surely distribute some of their applications bundled together with their OS (Microsoft Silverlight bundled with Windows? Be afraid Adobe, be very afraid), or maybe placing Live Search as the default search engine of their IE browsers (Oops, isn’t that implemented already), or utilising their own search and indexing engine which is built into Vista (one of the best features IMO, and even though Google are forcing Microsoft into giving the user the choice to disable it and use their own Google Desktop Search seriously just doesn’t cut it). Microsoft is definitely moving into Google’s waters, and would definitely give them a hell of a fight if the rumour that they’re building a next generation search engine is true. Where Google ain’t giving up either, just recently acquiring Zenter, company which created an online presentation/powerpoint solution .

Well, all these will definitely fuel more competition in the software industry, especially when the lines between the desktop and the web is blurring,  as to who will win…who cares? It’s us consumers who benefit anyway J

Silverlight (and perhaps .NET 3.5) will definitely be bundled together with the next Vista service pack, just like .NET 3 is bundled with Vista.

I’m definitely anticipating how Microsoft will tightly integrate Live services into Windows, and start raking more profits from Live services.
