My Convocation

13 06 2008

Saturday, 14th June 2008, was my convocation day, and what a day it was indeed!!

When me and my parents reached the College Hall at around 8am, I was greeted by my friends, which told me that I won the Perpetual Cup, which was:

The Perpetual Cup, donated by friends from Campbell University and Ulster University is awarded to the student who upon having completed the requirements for the award of the Degree of Bachelor of Science of Campbell University, is selected by the Head and Faculty as the most outstanding student of the Senior Class considering academic achievements, character, integrity and leadership potential.

(Quoted from Convocation Booklet)

To add to that, I also won the Prize for Information Systems, which was 2 awards out of 7 excellence awards! I was so soo happy! And I must say it took quite some effort to stop myself from jumping around like a crazy maniac.

After cooling down and registering myself, I then went and start taking pictures with my friends, and not long after that, we had to proceed to be seated in the College Hall as the ceremony begun.

It took just awhile for the VIPs to finish giving their speeches, and the graduates started going up the stage to collect their graduation scrolls.

When it reached my turn, I was pretty happy while I went to collect my graduation scroll, finally I have graduated!

The excellence awards wards were presented right after that, and I was really glad to collect both the Prize for Information Systems and the most prestigious award, the Perpetual Cup.

As I was up on stage, hearing the claps and cheers from the crowd, I was filled with joy and pride, and really thankful for each and everyone for their support, friendship and care, which gave me the motivation to work hard and ultimately win this award.

After the ceremony ended, I went around taking pictures with all my family, friends and lecturers, above is the picture of me and my coursemates.

Above is a picture of me, holding a bouquet of flowers, with both the award trophies placed on a table on stage. Despite looking relatively light, both the award trophies are pretty heavy indeed. The Information Systems award trophy weighs around 3 kg and the Perpetual Cup weighs and astounding 6 kg!

Today was one of the most memorable day of my life. I would like to thank God for everything, and of course my family, lecturers, and friends, that have supported me throughout these years, making all of these possible.

Thank You!

You might not remember me. But I remember you because you’re the most famous person among the participants of the convocation!

Although it’s late, but I wish to say this to you:”Congrats!!!”

I understand your feeling of holding the 10kg cups on your hands, my hands were painful after the convocation. It was like holding two 5kg dumbells for almost an hour!

I wish I could bring the cups back so I can display them in my house and not the twenty-minute time to take pictures… Haha! Hm..If I’m not mistaken, I helped you to carry one of your cups (a total of 3 cups on my hands!) when you headed out to receive your second cup (the Perpetual Cup).

Anyway, your wisdom and hard work had been rewarded. Keep up the good work!
